Smaller community schools in Ecuador suffer from a severe lack of resources and are often neglected. These schools are often in jungle communities and usually only have one teacher teaching pupils of varying ages and abilities at the same time.
The communities themselves tend to be largely self sufficient and average income per household is below $150 a month which makes it difficult for them to afford to pay for the necessary educational resources.
The schools we are working with usually lack:
- Teacher resources such as books
- Pupil resources such as pens and papers
- Sports equipment
- Teaching facilities, they usually just have one classroom which is often dilapidated.
- Enough adequate chairs and tables
- Electricity
- Computers
Our activities vary based on the needs of the individual schools and the resources we have available. Please click on the links to find out a bit about each school and how we have helped so far.
In August 2009 we held a big fundraising BBQ in Devon, which included a raffle with donations from local businesses, live music, and food. From this we raised an amazing £721. Furthermore, we collected donations of any stationary, school equipment, school polo shirts and second hand clothing. We were also lucky enough to have two laptops donated to us.
