Welcome to SelvaKids

“The right to Life, Culture and Education”

SelvaKids is a small scale non profit organisation run by 2 friends, Helen Ashdown and Cass Walker. After spending our gap years in Ecuador teaching English, and trying to teach with limited resources, we were inspired to set up our own project and so SelvaKids was born.

Selva is the Spanish word for jungle and SelvaKids was set up with the aim of helping poorly funded schools in the Amazon region of Ecuador to obtain basic resources and to give them access to greater teaching facilities.

One of our ongoing projects is helping victims of the flood that hit the Napo area in April 2010 by providing them with resources to be able to rebuild their communities. Click on our ‘Emergency flood appeal’ page to find out more!

THE CHOCOLATE TREE CAMPAIGN

Selva Kids are proud to bring you an exciting opportunity: to plant a Chocolate Tree.

“But that sounds like the stuff of fairytales!” we hear you cry.  Not anymore; for just £5, you can plant a Chocolate Tree in Ecuador.

The idea is simple: you buy a Chocolate Tree through Selva Kids and one cocoa tree will be planted in a piece of donated land. The crop is then harvested and sold, with all profits going back into the local Amazonian community. Everyone will see the benefits as it produces work, the jungle is being preserved and better resources can be provided for the local schools.

If you would like to buy a Chocolate Tree, please donate via PayPal (see donate now link on the right!). Also please email your name and address to selvakids@hotmail.co.uk so we can send you a funky limited edition Chocolate Tree certificate.
